Therapeutic Freediving Level 1

This therapeutic level 1 freediving course provides an opportunity for those with lived experiences (such as depression, anxiety, pts) to learn the basics of freediving with a trauma-informed/wellness lens by an SSI freediving instructor who is also a licensed clinical social worker.

Adaptive breathwork is taught with the space allowed for some processing and somatic release. We also discuss and learn the benefits for nervous system regulation by connecting with others and the ocean. We learn to release and find our affinity with self and the environment.

This 4-hour session includes course room (by the beach) instruction about the nervous system, different breath techniques to soothe and regulate the vagus nerve along with other evidence-based activities to induce relaxation. We discuss how the ocean promotes somatic healing and what to expect, and a safe place to process. We learn the basics of freediving skills and review safety protocols, finning, duck dives, buoyancy, equalization, and recovery breathing.

Next, we go in shallow water (hip deep) to practice relaxation skills with our dive buddies. We review buoyancy and flotation while incorporating mindfulness techniques. From there we practice our basic freediving skills focusing on streamlining, finning, breathing, and relaxation, recovery breath, and equalization.Β

Next, we move to the level 1 portion of the program:

--Learn to dive up to 20m/66ft

--Build your breath hold up to 1:30 min +

--Learn key safety and dive management skills And more!
